‘Our govt’s development work has resulted in Congress losing face and abandoning campaign’

Tura, March 30: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has taunted the opposition Congress accusing it of fleeing from the political battlefield and abandoning its campaign for fear of losing face after witnessing the developmental works initiated by the NPP led MDA Government in the state.

“Today with what issue will they face the public. They have lost the will to fight and are not even campaigning in this GHADC election because they know the public will not buy their stories. We, on our part, have consistently focused on development alone,” said Conrad Sangma as he addressed a large crowd of supporters at Tikrikilla on Tuesday evening.

The chief minister has been campaigning aggressively all over the five districts in Garo Hills for the upcoming GHADC election and on Tuesday evening once again led the campaign trail by addressing a massive election meeting at Tikrikilla to drum up support for NPP’s Dhormonath Sangma, candidate of Naguapara GHADC constituency.
Speaking at the rally, he urged the people to vote for the party that had initiated fast-track development in the State.
He reminded the voters about some of the ambitious projects of his government, including the Jal Jeevan Mission that aims to provide tap water to all households in the State.
“Our government is working aggressively to create better road infrastructure across the State, including Garo Hills and roads and bridges in plain belt region of Garo Hills, which is something crucial that was neglected for years by the previous Congress government.
Today there is opportunity for overall development,” reminded the chief minister.
Urging the public to vote for NPP candidate Dhormonath Sangma the chief minister said that each win for his party would help open a channel for the constituencies to have a direct connection with the government.
“We want a direct line to the people through their elected representatives to ensure development reaches every nook and corner of the constituency,” assured Conrad Sangma.
He dismissed any threat of a tight finish at the council polls terming the opposition as having lost its steam and shying from campaigning due to lack of issues to counter his government
