Khonsa, June 17: Girls today are proving that there are no limits to what they can achieve, whether in academics, competitive examinations, leadership or public life, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran said on Wednesday while urging parents to continue investing in the education and aspirations of their daughters.
Addressing a felicitation programme organised under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme at the DC Conference Hall in Khonsa, Aran said daughters are a source of pride for families and society alike.
“Parents with daughters are truly fortunate. Girls today are excelling in every field of life, whether it is education, leadership, academics or competitive examinations. Time and again, they have demonstrated their abilities and shown that they can achieve anything they set their minds to,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner was speaking at a programme organised to honour meritorious tribal girl students from Tirap district who excelled in the Class X and Class XII board examinations.
Congratulating the awardees, Aran reminded them that success should be viewed not as a destination but as the beginning of a larger journey. He encouraged the young achievers to continue working hard, remain focused on their goals and strive for greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
He also called upon parents to treat sons and daughters equally and continue supporting the education of their girls, stressing that educating a daughter benefits not only a family but society as a whole.
The event, organised by the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD), Tirap, celebrated the academic achievements of local tribal girl students and highlighted the importance of empowering girls through education.
Welcoming the gathering, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Hacham Bangsia spoke about the vision behind the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, which seeks to ensure the survival, protection and education of the girl child.
“We need to create an environment where every girl feels supported and empowered to pursue her dreams and realise her full potential,” Bangsia said, adding that the felicitation programme was intended to inspire young girls to dream bigger and move forward with confidence.
Cash awards were distributed under two categories — Government Schools and Government-Aided/Private Recognised Schools. Under the scheme, first-position holders in both Class X and Class XII examinations received ₹15,000 each, while second-position holders were awarded ₹10,000 each.

The programme was attended by DAEO i/c DDSE Khonsa K. Hangphuk, CDPO Namsang Pakkar Nomuk, DIPRO Khonsa Ponung Tasing, along with students, parents and guardians.
The event concluded with the distribution of awards, words of encouragement from dignitaries and a vote of thanks.
More than a felicitation ceremony, the programme served as a celebration of the aspirations, achievements and potential of young girls. It reinforced a simple but powerful message: when girls are educated and empowered, entire communities move forward.
