Must read

Shillong, Oct 15 : Archbishop of Shillong Rev. Victor Lyngdoh given the pallium by Most Rev. Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Health Minister James Sangma and a host of other dignitaries attended the mass at Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, Shillong.

The solemn ceremony was also attended by Bishops from across Northeastern region.

The purpose of the Nuncio’s visit was to confer the Pallium on the newly appointed Archbishop, Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh. Pallium signifies the plenitude of the pontifical office. It is worn by the Pope and Archbishops. It typifies the participation of Archbishops in the supreme pastoral power of the Pope, who concedes it to them for their proper church provinces. It is made of lambs-wool, symbolizing Christ, who is both the sacrificial Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, and the Good Shepherd, who cares for his flock.

The newly woven Pallia are blessed by the Holy Father during the solemn Mass on the feast of Saints Peter and Paul in the Vatican.

According to the mandate of Pope Francis, the Pallium is now to be placed on the newly appointed Metropolitan Archbishop in his home diocese by the Papal Representative, the Apostolic Nuncio, with the participation of the suffragan Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province and the presence of the people of God.
