Shillong, June 12: Electricity consumers across Garo Hills will face scheduled power outages this month as the Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Limited (MePTCL) undertakes critical maintenance works on key transmission infrastructure.
The shutdowns, spread across three dates in June, are aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of the region’s power supply network.
The first outage is scheduled for June 13 from 9 am to 12.30 pm and will affect Tura, Rongram Block, Edenbari, Dalu and Chokpot. MePTCL said the shutdown is necessary for preventive maintenance of the 33 KV bus at the 132 KV Rongkhon Substation.

A second shutdown will take place on June 20 from 8 am to 1 pm in Phulbari, Tikrikilla, Rajabala and Raksamgre areas. During this period, maintenance teams will carry out jungle clearance along the 132 KV Ampati–Phulbari transmission line to prevent vegetation-related disruptions and ensure safe power transmission.
Another major maintenance operation is scheduled for June 27, when parts of West Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills will experience power interruptions to facilitate disc replacement and jumper repair works on the 132 KV Nangalbibra–Rongkhon transmission line.
MePTCL, however, said it will attempt to minimise inconvenience to consumers by supplying electricity through the 132 KV Hatsingimari line during the June 27 maintenance work.
The corporation has appealed to residents to cooperate during the temporary shutdowns, saying the works are essential to strengthen the transmission network and reduce the risk of unplanned outages in the future.
