Imphal, Sept 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Manipur on September 13, marking his first trip to the state since the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023. According to highly placed sources, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth nearly ₹8,500 crore.
Preparations are underway for the foundation stone laying of projects worth over ₹7,300 crore at Peace Ground in Churachandpur. In addition, projects worth ₹1,200 crore are scheduled to be inaugurated in Imphal, sources confirmed.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday met five MLAs from the Kuki-Zo community in Churachandpur to discuss the possible visit and its arrangements.
The visit is being seen as a significant political and developmental step in the backdrop of the state’s ongoing efforts to heal from last year’s violence.
