TNR cites resource crunch behind RPP merger

Must read

Kohima, July 15: The Naga Rising (TNR) on Tuesday admitted its “own failures”, blaming a lack of resources as a key reason behind the merger of the Rising People’s Party (RPP), which it had helped float, with the Naga People’s Front (NPF).

In a public statement, the organisation said it had initiated the formation of the RPP to provide Nagaland with a political alternative committed to “definite transformation” and honest governance. Although the RPP functioned independently, it remained closely linked to TNR, which was expected to guide and support the party as it evolved.

However, TNR admitted it could not fulfil that responsibility because of its own limitations.

“We admit our own failures. It was due to our limited resources that we were unable to support the RPP as we would have liked,” the statement said.

TNR said it had advised RPP leaders to exhaust every possible option to keep the party alive but acknowledged that the prevailing political circumstances left them with little choice but to merge with the NPF.

“We feel sorry that it had to be this way,” it added.

The organisation paid tribute to the commitment and sacrifice of RPP workers and supporters, saying the party had sincerely tried to provide an alternative political platform but was ultimately unable to sustain itself. It wished party members success in their new political journey.

Reaffirming its vision, TNR said it would continue to stand for politics rooted in morality, transparency, accountability and justice, while assuring Nagaland’s younger generation that these ideals would continue to guide the organisation.

The RPP was launched as an alternative political platform advocating clean and accountable politics and quickly gained support among sections of Nagaland’s youth. Its merger with the NPF has disappointed many supporters, with several expressing shock and disappointment on social media over the loss of an independent political alternative.
