Boko, April 4: In a key political shift ahead of the Assam elections, the Rabha National Council has withdrawn support from the BJP-led alliance and backed Congress candidate Ramen Singh Rabha in Boko-Chaygaon.
The announcement, made late Saturday night, signals a consolidation of community support in a constituency where local dynamics are crucial. The council described Rabha as its “national leader” and urged voters to rally behind him.

RNC leaders also raised questions over BJP candidate Raju Mech, alleging limited grassroots connect and flagging his past support for proposals affecting the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council.
In contrast, the council highlighted Rabha’s role in local movements, including protests against the Kulshi dam project and land-related issues in the region.

The endorsement is seen as a setback for the BJP alliance, potentially influencing voter alignment in a closely contested seat where community backing remains a decisive factor.
