Railways claim ‘locomotive glitch’ behind North Bengal mishap, 9 dead so far

Guwahati, Jan 14: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the site where the Bikaner-Guwahati Express of the Northeast Frontier Railway zone derailed on Thursday evening. Nine people were killed and 36 were injured when the Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailed near Domohani of Mainaguri in the northern part of West Bengal.

“A statutory inquiry has been initiated. PM Modi is monitoring the situation and I’m in constant touch with him. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” Vaishnaw said.

He further added that according to a preliminary inquiry, there was a glitch in locomotive equipment. “The Commission of Rail Safety is conducting an inquiry to find the root cause behind the accident,” he added.
