Shillong, July 22: The Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi district, Abhilash Baranwal, on Tuesday convened a meeting with the Meghalaya Commercial Trucks Owners and Drivers Association (MCTODA) to address the longstanding concerns raised by the association regarding the presence of multiple toll gates allegedly collecting illegal and excessive charges from truck drivers in the district.

Leading the association’s delegation was its president, Mosklandar Marngar, accompanied by secretary Peter Marbaniang, spokesperson Wanshuwa Nongtdu, and other members.

During the meeting, the association highlighted the issue of 16 toll gates operating across Ri Bhoi district, where truck drivers are allegedly being forced to pay up to ₹200 per gate. The association claims these charges are unauthorized and exploitative, causing financial strain on transporters.

The Deputy Commissioner reportedly invited the group for a detailed discussion in response to their repeated appeals for government intervention. Both sides agreed on the need for cooperation to address the issue and resolve the matter in the interest of fair and lawful transport operations.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with a commitment from the district administration to examine the concerns raised and work towards curbing any instances of illegal toll collection.
