Maibang, Feb 12: National People’s Party (NPP) National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma formally inducted popular regional leader Daniel Langthasa into the party at a large public convention held at Dishru Field, Maibang, on Thursday.
Langthasa joined the NPP in the presence of senior party leaders and hundreds of supporters, signalling what party leaders described as a renewed push to strengthen the party’s organisational base in the hill district.
The induction programme was attended by NPP National Working President James K. Sangma, Vice President Hemochandra Singh, founder of the Tipra Motha Party Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, and former Nagaland minister Mmhonlumo Kikon, along with senior NPP leaders from across the Northeast.
Welcoming Langthasa and his supporters into the party fold, Sangma said the move reflected growing public confidence in the NPP’s development agenda anchored in the protection of tribal identity and indigenous rights. He stressed that the party remains committed to inclusive growth, improved connectivity, and expanding opportunities for youth across the region.
Reiterating the party’s “One Northeast” vision, Sangma said stronger inter-state collaboration and respect for cultural diversity were key to ensuring shared progress in the region.
Party leaders described the induction as a major boost for the NPP in Dima Hasao and expressed confidence that the party would consolidate its presence by aligning with grassroots aspirations and local leadership.
The NPP also thanked the people of Dima Hasao for their participation in the convention and reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the district’s developmental priorities.
