Schools and colleges in Meghalaya to reopen from September 01

Shillong, Aug 26: Meghalaya government has decided to reopen schools and colleges in the State from September 01, 2021 onwards.

The decision was taken by the Cabinet on Thursday after taking into consideration the decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

Addressing media persons after the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the cabinet has decided that all schools and colleges will be opened from September 1.

He said this was based on the recommendations made by the education department.

Modalities for reopening of Schools and Colleges 

– Colleges in both urban and rural areas will be reopened
– In Urban areas, only online classes for Classes 1 to 5
– In Urban areas, Classes 6 to 8 to have school visits
– In Urban areas, Classes 9 to 12 will be opened
– In Rural areas, only school visits for classes 1 to 5
– In Rural areas, Classes 6 to 12 will be opened
– However, school and colleges have been given the flexibility to decide on whether they want to open or not.

Schools and colleges in Meghalaya have remained closed since March 2020, since the onset of first wave of COVID-19. The educational institutes were reopened in early 2021 but were shut down due to the second wave of the pandemic.
