“Information is received that some organisations will be organising demonstrations in different parts of the district, and the opinion is that such demonstrations, if allowed to be held in the ‘No Procession or Assembly Zone, will cause obstruction, hinder the movement of traffic, lead to crowding and congestion, and may also result in disturbance of the public places and tranquilly; and such activities are not intimated to nor do they have any approval of the competent authority”, said the notification.
The notification prohibits “any person or group of persons from holding a demonstration or rally within a 200-metre radius of the Meghalaya Secretariat Building and Raj Bhavan. No procession or rally within a 200-metre radius of the Meghalaya Secretariat Building and Raj Bhavan; the carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons; or any other item or material having the potential to be used as a weapon that can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person(s)”, it added.
Any violation of the said order will attract penal provisions under Section 188 of the IPC, it further said.
