Imphal, July 8: Security forces in Manipur on Monday arrested three individuals linked to different proscribed outfits during intensive operations against insurgent elements across the state.
In one operation, an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), identified as Huiningsungbam George Bush Meitei alias Lallouba (18), was apprehended from Lamphel Grace Colony in Imphal West. He was reportedly involved in extortion activities.
In a separate operation in Imphal East, security personnel arrested Thokchom Wilson Singh alias BK (26), an active member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), from Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai. He was allegedly collecting extortion money from local shops and retailers in areas such as Canchipur, Mantripukhri, and Kakwa. A mobile phone was recovered from him during the arrest.
In another case, a 43-year-old man, Khumanthem Bikramjit Singh, from Thoubal district was arrested for allegedly supplying SIM cards to underground groups, including PREPAK (PRO). Police said the SIM cards were reportedly used by insurgents based in Myanmar to extort money from residents in Thoubal.
Security forces have launched large-scale operations across Manipur and have so far arrested several cadres belonging to various proscribed groups.
“Most of the insurgent groups are involved in extortion activities. They easily sneak into Myanmar after carrying out their operations. We have alerted all border points and are taking all possible measures to stop such activities,” said a police official.
