SHILLONG, FEB 27: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui told the Assembly on Friday that comprehensive sex education is taught in Meghalaya schools through chapters on adolescence, teenage pregnancy, STIs, HIV/AIDS, and reproduction.
“Comprehensive sex education (CSE) programme is available in the form of teaching related to topics like adolescence, growth and development, teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS-facts and preventions, reproduction in human being, reproductive health as per prescribed textbooks of Health & Physical Education classes IX and X and also in Science textbooks (NCERT adopted by the Board for classes VIII and X),” Rymbui said in a reply tabled in the Assembly on Friday.
“All schools under the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) are providing comprehensive sex education according to their age and classes as contained in the contents of the prescribed textbooks,” he added.
