Shallang Super Cops clinch P. A. Sangma Memorial Cricket title in thriller

Tura, May 25: In a nail-biting finish that kept hundreds of spectators on edge, Shallang Super Cops emerged champions of the 4th edition of the P. A. Sangma Memorial Day & Night Cricket Tournament after defeating Club Mean Machine by just three runs in the final at the Police Parade Ground in Tura on Sunday.

The popular tournament, which has grown into one of the biggest local cricketing events in the region, witnessed participation from 84 teams and featured 81 matches in its 2026 edition.

Batting first in the high-pressure 10-over final, Shallang Super Cops posted a competitive 123/8. Chasing the target, Club Mean Machine mounted a spirited fightback but eventually fell short at 120/6, handing the Super Cops a dramatic three-run victory.

With the win, Shallang Super Cops lifted the coveted trophy and received a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, while runners-up Club Mean Machine took home Rs 1 lakh.

Denikcheng Ch Marak of Shallang Super Cops was adjudged Man of the Match for his decisive performance in the final. Dipankar Hajong of Mean Machine received the Best Bowler award, while Chinabirth of Chidare team was named Man of the Series for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

The grand finale drew an enthusiastic crowd and was attended by several prominent leaders, including MLAs Subir Marak, Sanjay Sangma and Ian Botham Sangma, along with TMB Chairman J. D. Sangma, former MCA president Danny Marak and GHADC MDCs Sanjay Koch and Linekar K Sangma.
