SHILLONG, MAR 3: Rajya Sabha MP Dr Wanweiroy Kharlukhi on Tuesday said that a society which neglects or hates its younger generation has no future.
Addressing at the close of the two-day Youth Parliament in Tura, Kharlukhi expressed confidence that one among the participants would one day be at the helm in Meghalaya, adding, “God has His own plans for every individual—remain patient and steadfast.”
Reflecting, he recalled declining a Rajya Sabha offer from Late Purno A Sangma in 2008, then entering the Upper House years later.
“Destiny unfolds in its own time.”

He noted Late Dr Donkupar Roy was still a student at statehood in 1972 and became Chief Minister in 2008, and that today’s CM Conrad K Sangma had just finished college when the NCP was formed in 1999.
“Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders,” he said.
Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretary Malthus S. Sangma told students the exercise was not about “presenting opinions perfectly” but observing how representatives debate “out of love for the community.”
He acknowledged stage fright but praised their courage.
Organised by Tura Christian College’s Political Science Department and sponsored by the Assembly, the programme opened Monday with Speaker Thomas A. Sangma attending as chief guest.
