Shillong, June 9: Sonam Raghuvanshi, the 30-year-old woman accused of orchestrating her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was taken into custody by the Ghazipur police in Uttar Pradesh.
She was found at a local dhaba, where she had gone to call her family members, and was subsequently arrested.
After her arrest, Sonam underwent a medical examination at a hospital in Ghazipur. She will be taken to Patna tonight by road and then brought to Shillong tomorrow, where she will be produced in the District Shillong court.
The Meghalaya police, who are leading the investigation, have sent a team to Ghazipur to take custody of Sonam.
They plan to fly from Patna to Guwahati at 12:55 pm and then drive to Shillong.
According to the police, Sonam allegedly hired three assassins to kill her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, due to her extra-marital affair with Raj Kushwaha.
The investigation revealed that Sonam was in regular touch with Raj Kushwaha, who played a key role in planning the murder.
Five people, including Sonam and Raj Kushwaha, have been arrested in connection with the case.
Sonam’s family has expressed shock and disbelief over her alleged involvement in the murder. Her father, Devi Singh, has demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter, claiming that his daughter is innocent and falsely implicated.
On the other hand, Raja’s family is still grieving over the loss of their son and believes that Sonam should face strict punishment if found guilty .
