SHILLONG, JUL 15: Stakeholders in Meghalaya have agreed to work together to strengthen recovery and reintegration support for people overcoming substance use.
Care For India’s Reintegration Project, in partnership with the state’s DREAM Mission, hosted a consultation on Monday titled “Reintegration Insights: Strengthening Recovery Together”.
Representatives from over 20 NGOs, faith groups, rehabilitation centres and government departments attended.
The discussion centered on gaps in post-rehabilitation care, including referrals, livelihood support and community follow-up. Speakers including Dr. Jasmine Mary Lyngdoh, Francis Kharshiing, and Rev. E. C. Marwein stressed the need for better coordination so that individuals do not lose support after leaving treatment.

As an outcome, participants decided to set up a joint forum to improve collaboration across agencies.
Care For India will coordinate the forum for one year, with the next meeting to be hosted by New Hope De-addiction Centre in October.
Bob Jacob of Care For India said recovery must be backed by community support to ensure dignity and purpose for those rebuilding their lives.
