State Boxing Championship 2025-26: Action heats up on Day 2

Shillong, Apr 28: The second day of the State Boxing Championship 2025-26 witnessed intense bouts as several categories moved into the decisive stages at Mawlai Mawroh on Tuesday.

Organised by the Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA) with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the four-day championship features junior (15–16 years) and youth (17–18 years) boys’ and girls’ divisions across multiple weight categories.

In the girls’ youth section, semifinal bouts were completed across weight classes. Jiasa B Marak (North Garo Hills) advanced in the 44-46kg division with a win over Risalang Lawriniang. In the 48-51kg category, Ekyrpangmeki Sohiong defeated Nishamery Kurbah in an all Ri-Bhoi contest, while Laweibaphyrnai Marwein got the better of Khamkornaki Iawphniaw. In the 54-57kg division, Sanphika Mynsong beat Ibapynsuk Thabah to book her place in the final.

The boys’ youth category also saw semifinalists confirmed. Russell Fabian Nongkhlaw (Mawshbuit Boxing Club) and Banchanmiki Pyrtuh (Green Heart Boxing Club) progressed in the 45-48kg division. In the 48-50kg class, Amethyst Synnah and Samuel Sohphoh advanced, while Nineseviersius Suchiang and Kibanroi Syngkli moved ahead in the 50-55kg category. In the 55-60kg division, Marleki Suchiang and Erickson Kahit sealed their semifinal spots.

Meanwhile, the junior boys’ competition entered the quarterfinal stage, with several boxers progressing across weight divisions. Among the winners were Arush Biswa, Eddieferson Wahlang, Pyndapkupar Marwein, Nambearo Sangma, Freedy Marngar, Ryan Lyngdoh, Aaron T Sangma and Arkimanbha Rimen.

With semifinals now lined up in the youth categories and junior bouts progressing steadily, the championship is set to enter its crucial final stages over the next two days.
