Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will likely resume the second phase of border talks for resolving the remaining six areas of difference next month.
National People’s Party (NPP) national chief and chief minister, Conrad K Sangma, has expressed that the recent merging of three Congress legislators with the ruling NPP is a clear message of confidence in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government and the leadership.
Replying in the Assembly, Sangma said that the Meghalaya Protection of Catchment Area Act, 1990 could not be implemented effectively as it does not provide any other mechanism for creation of catchment areas except through consent of the land owners which is extremely difficult to secure.
