Dibrugarh, June 22: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Sunday visited Oil India Limited’s cutting-edge Kalpalok Virtual Reality Centre in Duliajan, describing advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality as key drivers of India’s energy future.
During the visit, Puri explored the state-of-the-art facility, which allows geoscientists and engineers to visualise and analyse complex underground hydrocarbon reserves through immersive three-dimensional environments.
Unlike conventional two-dimensional mapping, the centre uses advanced VR technology to create detailed subsurface models, helping experts better understand geological formations and identify potential oil and gas reserves with greater accuracy.
The Union Minister said the integration of AI and digital technologies would strengthen India’s efforts to boost domestic hydrocarbon production, improve operational efficiency and enhance long-term energy security.
He noted that innovation-driven platforms such as Kalpalok are expected to play a crucial role in accelerating exploration and production activities while supporting the country’s goal of energy self-reliance.
Puri also highlighted the importance of emerging technologies in transforming India’s oil and gas sector, saying such initiatives align with the broader vision of building a technologically advanced and self-reliant energy ecosystem.
The visit underscores the growing role of digital transformation in India’s energy landscape, with Duliajan emerging as a hub where cutting-edge technology meets traditional resource exploration.
