In a major crackdown on electricity bill defaulters, the Tripura Power Department has disconnected power lines and imposed hefty fines on thousands of non-paying consumers, as nearly 60% of the state’s electricity users reportedly fail to pay their bills.
Speaking on the development, Power Minister A.T. Mondal said, “The tariff is fixed by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission. Let all the orders come out, then we will review everything as per industrial and domestic requirements. Some relief was given to industries to encourage investment, but we will assess this situation comprehensively."
