Dibrugarh, July 5: Contrary to the state government’s claims of prioritizing educational development, the Longding District Students’ Union (LDSU) has slammed the authorities for what it termed a “total failure” in appointing adequate teaching staff in schools across the district.
As a mark of protest against the government’s apathy, students from various schools in Longding staged a demonstration under the banner of LDSU, demanding the urgent appointment of Principals, Vice-Principals, Headmasters, and subject teachers.
LDSU leaders alleged that two months ago, nine teachers were appointed across different levels—from lower primary to higher secondary—but none joined their posts. More recently, 11 teachers were appointed, but only one reported for duty.
“The rest did not join, allegedly using political influence. This reflects the grim state of education in Longding,” the union leaders said. They also expressed deep concern over the fact that the district still lacks a government college, forcing students to leave the area to pursue higher education.
The LDSU has warned that it will launch a series of intensified agitations if the government fails to address their genuine demands without further delay.
