Tura, August 14: The Tura Runner’s Club on Monday (August 14) organised a cleaning drive commemorating the 9th Foundation Day of their club at the Chandmari football playground area.
In the cleaning drive around 20 people took part in the cleaning the Chandmari playground area of the garbage.
While speaking to the Hub News, the secretary of the Tura runner’s club Dr. Silnang Marak said, “today’s cleaning drive was just to mark the 9th foundation day of our club but apart of this we also organised other events like tree plantations and going to villages and spreading awareness about conservation of the environment and such.”
Dr. Silnang also said that the will be organising a marathon event on November 5th, it is a flagship event and will be calling it the Turathon and in that there will be 4 categories – one full marathon, one half marathon, a 10 km run and a 5 km fun run.
The online registration for the Turathon will be opened from September 1st and in due course will open the offline registration as well. He also said that there will be a hefty prize amount for the winners of the Turathon.
The Tura Runner’s Club was founded on August 14, 2015 when pre- independence day run was organised by the district sports office, where a group of running enthusiasts came together and formed the club and it is currently headed by it’s president Dr. Ramona Sangma.
