Shillong, Nov 13: The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has clarified that no decision has been reached regarding the candidature for the upcoming MDC and MP elections scheduled to be held next year.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, UDP President Metbah Lyngdoh emphasized that the recent announcement of collaboration with the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) pertains solely to the forthcoming MP election.
Lyngdoh stated that for the Tura Parliamentary seat, the party has deferred the decision to the State Election Committee (SEC), which includes members from the core committee and senior leaders representing Garo Hills.
Highlighting the party’s preparation for the 2024 elections, Lyngdoh mentioned that the CEC has greenlit the selection of members for the state election committee, tasked with overseeing both MP and MDC elections.
Furthermore, Lyngdoh stated that the UDP has entrusted the state election committee with the responsibility of examining matters related to potential candidates seeking tickets from the party.
