Shillong, April 30: A 15-year-old girl from Ferozabad, Uttar Pradesh, fell into the Weisawdong Falls in Sohra on Wednesday and was swept away by the strong current.
The teenager had come with her parents and relatives on a visit to the popular tourist site, known for attracting large numbers of visitors due to its scenic beauty.
The incident occurred around 11:30 am, police said, citing information received from the Sordar of Laitduh. According to officials, the girl was standing close to the edge of the falls when she reportedly slipped into the water and was immediately carried away.
A Search and Rescue Team (SRT), along with police and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, has been deployed to the site to locate her.
As of the time of filing this report, the body of the missing girl had not yet been recovered.
