Shillong, Oct 9: After 4 days of going missing, the body of a local mountaineer (trainee) Tiklu Jyrwa, resident of Upper Lumparing was recovered on Saturday.
The mortal remains of Jyrwa (35) will be brought to Shillong on Sunday evening. The office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has made arrangements to facilitate transportation. The mortal remains will arrive from Dehradun to Guwahati Airport on Sunday at around 4:00 PM and will be transported to his home in Upper Lumparing, near Buddhist Temple Shillong.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma took to social media to condole Jyrwa’s demise. “Extremely sad to share that Mr. Tiklu Jyrwa, the mountaineer from Shillong who along with a team of mountaineers went missing after an avalanche hit them in Uttarakhand has passed away. We are in touch with the family and are facilitating the transportation of his mortal remains to Shillong. My prayers for his family and loved ones during their hour of grief. May the departed Rest In Peace,” he wrote.

Jyrwa was among the 26 who lost their precious lives in the avalanche that hit Draupadi Ka Danda in Uttarkashi on October 4. After days of searching the rescue team recovered the body of Jyrwa on Saturday after his brother-in-law identified his body. All 26 are trainees under the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM).
He was a member of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association and was sponsored by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs for the advanced mountaineering course at the NIM.
