Guwahati, May 21: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a fierce verbal counterattack against Bangladesh on Wednesday, warning that any aggression toward India’s strategic Siliguri Corridor — commonly known as the “Chicken’s Neck” — would be met with retaliatory force.
Sarma’s remarks appear to be a response to recent comments by Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, during his visit to China, where he reportedly made references to the region’s strategic vulnerability.

“India has one chicken neck, and Bangladesh has two chicken necks. So, if they think of attacking our chicken neck, we will attack their two necks,” Sarma told reporters.
“Their chicken neck from Meghalaya to Chittagong port is smaller than ours. It’s just one call away.”
The Siliguri Corridor, a narrow stretch of land in West Bengal, is a critical passage connecting India’s northeastern states to the rest of the country.

Asserting India’s military strength, Sarma cited “Operation Sindoor” to underline the country’s preparedness and capability. “No country should be under the impression that it can take over the Chicken’s Neck. The world has seen India’s military prowess during Operation Sindoor,” he said.
The chief minister also dismissed Bangladesh’s standing in regional geopolitics. “Bangladesh needs to be reborn to even think about attacking India,” he said. “There is no need to give any importance to Bangladesh. It’s a small country, not comparable to India.”
