Gangtok, June 30: Seeing the trend of remote jobs, which has gained popularity during Covid-19, the Sikkim government has launched the Sikkim Digital Nomad Village with assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Yakten, a quaint community in East Sikkim, has been designated as India’s first digital nomad village.
The outcome is the first-ever digital nomad town in India.
A digital nomad is a person who uses technology to work remotely while leading a mobile lifestyle.
This Sikkim village is India’s first fully developed digital nomad community, offering home-cooked meals, fast internet, peaceful surroundings, and nature treks in between meetings.
This innovative idea is intended for freelancers, digital entrepreneurs, and remote workers who like to work while taking in the scenery.
The goal is to help people in this usually chaotic environment establish a better balance between work and life.
The objective is to promote eco-friendly travel, support the neighbourhood, and provide opportunities for cross-cultural interaction and mutual learning.
The Sikkim government transformed Yakten into a model community that combines nature and technology. Yakten is only 10 km from the new Pakyong Airport.
The Indian digital nomad village is intended to be both eco-friendly and modern. Local Buddhist and Limboo families run the majority of homestays in this area.
