Shillong, Jan 20: West Jaintia Hills Police apprehended 18 Bangladeshi nationals, along with two Indian touts and five drivers, in a coordinated pre-dawn operation on Monday, foiling an alleged attempt to illegally transport the foreign nationals towards the Dawki border area.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of January 20, around 3 am, by a police special team assisted by the headman and Village Defence Party (VDP) of Demthring village. Four Bangladeshi nationals were first intercepted at Lad Demthring after a vehicle bearing registration number ML-04D/7339, driven by Vishal Dkhar of Dawki village, was chased and stopped near Sanmala Guest House in Amlarem.

The vehicles were found ferrying 14 Bangladeshi nationals, police said.
