Must read

Guwahati, Jan 30: Last week with a twin rally in Assam Union Home minister Amit shah had launched BJP’s campaigning for Assam polls, he had made the campaign agenda clear that is to vouch for an infiltration free Assam and aggressive campaign on abrogation of article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the Ram Mandir, signaling that the Assam polls might get highly polarized.

The congress in Assam which has formed a Mahagathbandhan has also started an aggressive campaign in Muslim dominated areas,  trying to prove two-point that it has not given away its Muslim support base to Ajmal’s AIUDF its ally in the grand alliance as well as the consolidation of the 35 percent Muslim vote bank.

BJP last week – with massive rallies of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit shah in Assam.

Congress has now hit the campaign trail, significantly held a massive minority cell convention of the party at Laharighat in Morigaon earlier this week, signaling that consolidation of the Muslim votes, that makes about 35 percent of Assam’s voters of 126 assembly seats in the state, 40 are dominated by Muslims, particularly the Bengali peaking Muslims whom the BJP had branded as illegal migrants from Bangladesh they might come in the way of BJP’s mission 100 plus, that’s to win more ten 100 out of 126 seats. Sensing an anti-BJP mood among the Assamese-speaking people because of CAA, the Congress feels an alliance with the AIUDF will not be as damaging as it could have been in the past but the party would definitely like to have a one-upmanship over Muslims votes.
