Guwahati, June 11: Dispur Police on Wednesday arrested a youth, identified as Sahil Khan, after recovering a high-end vehicle without a number plate, empty cartridges of various bores, live ammunition, and a press card from his possession.
The arrest came after Khan’s girlfriend, a woman from Assam’s Udalguri district, lodged an FIR alleging that he duped her and her family of ₹20 lakh on the false promise of marriage.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Mrinal Deka, Khan had developed a relationship with the complainant and convinced her family to hand over a substantial amount of money. “The accused later backed out of the marriage,” ADCP Deka said.
Khan, who is originally from Moran in Dibrugarh district, was residing at the Sinarji Imperial Complex in Kahilipara, Guwahati. A search of his residence led to the recovery of the Toyota Fortuner, ammunition, and other suspicious materials.
Police said a fresh case under the Arms Act is being registered, and the investigation is currently at a preliminary stage. Further details are awaited.
