TURA, July 11: A 15-day Theatre in Education workshop was successfully held from June 30 to July 14 at NEHU Tura Campus, bringing together students, artists, and even athletes for a unique blend of learning and performance.
Organised by the National School of Drama (T.I.E Wing), Tripura in collaboration with the Department of English, NEHU Tura, the workshop was supported by the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship and the State Bank of India.
For the first time, the workshop welcomed participants from beyond the English Department — including members of the A’chik Theatre Group (ATG) and sportspersons from the Tura District Cricket Association (TDCA). This diverse participation added fresh perspectives and new energy to the sessions.
“Theatre is not just an art form — it’s also a potential livelihood,” said Dr. Ramona M. Sangma, Head of the English Department at NEHU. “Though it’s our fifth year hosting this workshop, we made it more inclusive this time.”
The sessions were led by Manish Saini and Vikram Rathore, senior trainers from the National School of Drama, who guided participants through acting, public speaking, and stage performance.
The workshop aimed at building confidence, teamwork, and communication skills, and concluded with the participants performing four stage plays. All participants received certificates from NSD.
The closing ceremony was graced by Balsrame A. Sangma, the only National School of Drama alumnus from the region, along with Jameswarth Ch. Sangma, President of ATG, and Sengjrang A. Sangma, an ATG member.
The message that echoed through the program was clear and powerful: “The stage is waiting. Your voice matters. Let the world hear your story.”
