19 illegal immigrants sent back to Bangladesh

Must read

Guwahati, Dec 22: Nineteen illegal immigrants were pushed back to Bangladesh on Sunday following a joint operation by Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF). The individuals were apprehended from Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the development as a “full Doomsday moment” for infiltrators.
In an X post, Sarma wrote that the group had “disappeared from India, reappeared in their hell hole,” adding: “Message is crystal clear — Illegal stay in Assam? Endgame guaranteed.”

Officials said the operation was part of a broader crackdown on illegal settlements perceived to be threatening Assam’s demographic balance and internal security.

“So far, we have sent back many illegal immigrants who infiltrated into Assam. To stop further illegal infiltration, we are doing everything possible to secure the border,” said an official.

The 1,885-km India–Bangladesh border — spanning five northeastern states, including Assam — remains an area of heightened vigilance.

Since the political unrest in Bangladesh last year, the BSF has intensified patrolling and upgraded surveillance efforts along the border.
