Tura, July 18: South West Garo Hills police on Tuesday apprehended two people and seized heroin from them at Monabari.

The arrest took place around 2.30 PM when the police officials were conducting a routine vehicle check at Monabari Out Post. A tempo, bearing registration number ML-08G/4659, was coming from Mirzumla when it was stopped for a routine check but found one of the passengers acting suspiciously.

Upon further search, the police recovered four viles (one empty and three containing red-yellow substance) and two syringes from them. The substance in the viles was later identified as heroin, weighing 0.23 grams.

Accordingly, the two occupants of the Tempo – Wiang T Sangma (20 yrs) of Garobadha, and Along A. Sangma (19 yrs) of Dakopgre, Tura were detained.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the two men, and investigation is going on.
