SHILLONG, FEB 19: Chief of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Winston Tony Lyngdoh on Thursday confirmed that an FIR has been lodged and police investigation is underway regarding the theft incident inside the council office.

“We have seen the unidentified miscreant barge into our office through CCTV footage and we are waiting for a report from the police,” Lyngdoh said while replying to a zero-hour notice.

Lyngdoh advised against keeping money inside the office and informed that the executive committee will circulate a reminder to all departments. He also stated that the council has 32 CCTV cameras and may install more in strategic locations if necessary.

Leader of the Opposition, Titosstarwell Chyne, criticized the security system, saying, “Though the miscreants could only steal Rs2000, the theft shows that the security system in the council is weak.” Chyne urged the Executive Committee to strengthen security to prevent future incidents.
