TURA, June 9: A family of three and a little child have tragically lost their lives after they were buried alive in landslides that occurred in two places in Garo Hills early in the morning of Thursday.
Three members of a family were killed in a landslide that occurred in the Gambegre block region of West Garo Hills early Thursday morning while a 2 and a half year old boy died from a similar incident in the Betasing region of South West Garo Hills district.
The incidents occurred after Garo Hills was lashed by heavy rains late Wednesday night.
The three members of a single family were buried alive in the landslide that occurred at Jebalgre village under Gambegre block, around 32 kms from Gambegre block and 45 kms from Tura.
The three victims have been identified as Pritish Marak (mother), Almost Marak (son) and daughter Aianbe Marak (daughter).
The father Sengrik Sangma and his son Thobias Marak survived the tragedy and are in critical condition in a hospital.
In a separate incident, a 2 and half year old child Tanush Hajong lost his life when their house was destroyed in a landslide in Samati village of Betasing block in South West Garo Hills at around 4 AM Thursday.
