Dibrugarh, Nov 17: Local youths in Tinsukia detained 44 suspected individuals at the Tinsukia Railway Station on Monday morning, prompting security agencies to initiate verification procedures.

According to reports, the group had arrived from Jammu and Kashmir and were reportedly brought to the region by a contractor for work.

“We stopped 44 people who were moving around the station. When questioned, they said they were from Jammu and Kashmir and had come here for work. A contractor named Kadhim Ali had brought them for a project in Arunachal Pradesh,” said a local youth involved in the detention.

He added that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) were immediately informed. “We found their presence suspicious. Many incidents are happening across the country. The recent Delhi blast, in which doctors from Kashmir were involved, is one such example,” he claimed.

One of the detained individuals, Bashir Ahmed, said they were wage labourers hired for transmission line work. “We are here for four months to do digging work for electric towers in Arunachal Pradesh. Most of us are from Doda and Kishtwar districts. We travelled by train and reached here today,” he said.

Authorities have not yet completed verification of the group’s documents and identities.

The incident comes amid heightened vigilance in Assam following a crackdown on illegal migrants. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has repeatedly stated that illegal migration poses a threat to national security.
