Tura, Aug 6: Around 60 farmers received quality cashew grafts and input kits at the capacity building program to promote cashew cultivation was held at Joropara in North Garo Hills, Meghalaya.
The kits worth ₹3,000 each, including organic nutrients, microbial solutions, vegetable seeds and tools was sponsored under the ICAR-DCR and IIHR initiatives.
Organised by the Department of Horticulture, NEHU Tura Campus, in collaboration with Green Skills Agriculture Training Centre, the event aimed to strengthen cashew production in the North Eastern Himalayan Region using ICAR-DCR technologies.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Abhishek Saini, IAS, who attended as Chief Guest, urged farmers to adopt cashew as a viable livelihood crop and assured the district’s support for horticultural development.
Prof. C.P. Suresh, the program’s coordinator and NEHU horticulture faculty, conducted a technical session on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for cashew and emphasized the crop’s export potential.
Representing Bosco Reach Out (BRO), Dr. George Plathottam highlighted the transformational opportunity cashew offers to farmers and reiterated BRO’s commitment to community empowerment.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from local farmers, especially women, with organizers assuring continued support through training and follow-up assistance.
