Dibrugarh, Apr 23: The 6th Assam State Equestrian Championships got underway on Wednesday at the Borbari Equestrian Centre in Dibrugarh, with riders from across the state converging for the three-day event.

Organised by the Equestrian Federation of Assam, the meet will continue till April 25 and aims to provide competitive exposure while identifying and nurturing emerging talent in the sport.

The championships bring together leading equestrian contingents from across Assam, including teams from Assam Police, the 47 R&V Squadron of the NCC, and individual senior riders.

Events scheduled over the three days include jumping, dressage, and tent pegging.

Federation president S.K. Barua said the meet will also serve as a platform to scout and prepare riders for the upcoming National Games, scheduled to be held in 2027 in Shillong, Meghalaya.

He added that the growing participation of sub-junior and junior riders in recent years has encouraged the federation to plan a dedicated state-level championship for younger categories later this year.

Since its inception, the federation has played a key role in promoting equestrian sports in Assam and the Northeast, hosting several national and international events.
