AJYCP urges Gauhati University VC Nani Gopal Mahanta to resign amid corruption allegations

Must read

Guwahati, Oct 9: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has called on Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta to step down from his post following corruption allegations against him.

In a letter dated October 9, the student organisation expressed deep concern over what it described as the Vice Chancellor’s failure to address the allegations transparently.

“You have neither disproved the allegations nor initiated any impartial inquiry. No credible evidence has been presented to allay public concerns. Instead, your threat of legal action against those questioning you appears intended to silence criticism,” the letter stated.

The AJYCP urged Dr Mahanta to voluntarily relinquish his position until a fair and independent investigation is completed, saying such a step would help protect the university’s integrity and restore public confidence.

Dr Mahanta is the elder brother of Shyamkanu Mahanta, one of the accused in the Zubeen Garg death case.
