Shillong,  Dec 20: Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) apprehended two persons and seized suspected cannabis weighing 1.666 kg from South West Garo Hills.

The operation was launched on the basis of inputs from villagers of Jangari under Kalaichar Police Post, officials said.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Faruk Sheikh (48) of Nandirchar, Mahendraganj, and Md Bolurudin Bepari (19) of Beparipara, Mahendraganj. During the search, the ANTF team recovered the suspected cannabis from the possession of Faruk Sheikh.

Police said all legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were completed, and the contraband was seized.

Further investigation is underway to track the larger network behind the illegal drug trafficking in the region.
