Imphal, June 24: Manipur Police have arrested a key leader of the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol in connection with the brutal murder of a differently-abled man in Imphal West district.
The accused, identified as 35-year-old Longjam Khaba Singh, hails from Yumnam Huidrom Thiyam Leishangkhong.
Police confirmed that Singh was the prime suspect in the killing of Md Chesam Abdul Kadir, a resident of Paobitek Mayai Leikai, who had gone missing on the night of June 11. Following an intensive search operation, Kadir’s body was recovered on June 17, buried at Samurou Naorem.
The body was exhumed in the presence of an executive magistrate, a forensic team, and members of the victim’s family.
“We have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation. Based on our findings, we have arrested the leader of Arambai Tenggol,” said a senior police official.
