Imphal, Nov 1: Security forces have unearthed a major cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives from an abandoned insurgent hideout in Manipur’s southern Kakching district over the past 24 hours.
Acting on intelligence inputs regarding the movement of anti-social elements, security personnel launched a massive operation in the Umathel Lai Chingshang Hill Range area under Waikhong police station in Kakching district, during which a large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered.

“A light machine gun (LMG) of the INSAS series with two magazines, a 12-bore repeater, a single-barrel bolt-action gun, and one SBBL gun were recovered,” said a police official.
He added, “We also recovered 20 live rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, 13 empty 5.56 mm cases, three 36 mm high-explosive (HE) grenades, one grenade ring, one 51 mm illumination para bomb, and two covers of 51 mm HE bombs.”
No arrests were made during the three-hour-long cordon and search operation at the identified location.

Security forces have since intensified operations in the area to trace the whereabouts of the groups involved.
Since the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, security forces have conducted several major operations against insurgent groups, arresting many insurgents and seizing huge caches of arms and ammunition from their possession.
