Guwahati, Nov 1: In a major boost to Assam’s healthcare and hospitality infrastructure, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday laid the foundation stone for three landmark projects at Sarusajai — the Medanta Super-Speciality Hospital, Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital, and Lemon Tree Premier Five-Star Hotel.
The projects, collectively worth ₹800 crore, stem from the MoUs signed during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit held earlier this year.
“Today marks a significant milestone in Assam’s journey towards industrial transformation,” Dr. Sarma said. “These ventures will not only elevate the quality of healthcare and hospitality but also generate thousands of jobs and stimulate new avenues of medical tourism.”
The Chief Minister detailed that the Medanta Super-Speciality Hospital, to be built on 3.5 acres, will feature state-of-the-art facilities including robotic surgery and advanced medical technologies, catering to patients across the Northeast. The hospital is expected to create 5,000–7,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Medanta, led by renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Naresh Trehan, currently operates six major hospitals across India. The Guwahati facility will offer a comprehensive range of super-speciality services, making it a healthcare hub for the region.
The Cocoon Mother and Childcare Hospital by RJ Corp Healthcare, to be built on one acre, will replicate the success of its flagship facility in Jaipur — a leading centre for maternity and neonatal care that has treated over 1.5 lakh patients. “This will ensure world-class maternity and newborn healthcare for Assam’s families,” Dr. Sarma said.
The Lemon Tree Premier Five-Star Hotel, spread across 1.75 acres, will feature 300 rooms and 50 serviced apartments, bringing premium accommodation and hospitality standards to Guwahati. “With its world-class amenities, Lemon Tree will set a new benchmark in hospitality in the region,” the Chief Minister noted.
Dr. Sarma expressed gratitude to Dr. Trehan, RJ Corp Chairman Ravikant Jaipuria, and Lemon Tree Group CMD Patanjali Keswani for their commitment to Assam’s development. He reiterated the government’s support for all investors, assuring fast-tracked clearances and facilitation.
Highlighting Assam’s expanding investment landscape, Dr. Sarma announced that several projects announced under Advantage Assam 2.0 are already under implementation. He also revealed that a Rs 40,000-crore thermal power project and multiple palm oil ventures worth Rs 30,000 crore will commence soon, taking the total investment commitments to around Rs 1.78 lakh crore.
“The integrated complex at Sarusajai will open a new chapter in medical tourism, benefiting not only Assam but the entire Northeast and neighbouring Southeast Asian countries,” the Chief Minister said. “With sustained industrial growth, I am confident that our youth will soon find ample opportunities within the state.”
The event was attended by Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora, MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, MLA Taranga Gogoi, Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, and top business leaders Dr. Naresh Trehan, Ravikant Jaipuria, and Divyani Jaipuria, among others.
