Tura, July 22: A new book by Dr. Dan A’gitok Sangma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce at Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU), has highlighted that access to institutional training and financial support is key to the growth of micro enterprises in the Garo Hills region of Meghalaya.
The book, based on Dr. Sangma’s doctoral research at NEHU’s Tura Campus, was released in the presence of CWSSU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vasanti Vijayakumar, Registrar Sir Ambrose C. Marak, Deputy Registrar Sinje Marak, Advisor to the University Tony Treverth C. Marak, and Finance Officer Mr. Newar.
Focusing on the five Garo Hills districts as they exist in 2026, the study examines how support institutions and financial agencies have contributed to entrepreneurship development in the region.
Using field surveys and questionnaires collected from beneficiaries and implementing agencies, the research found a direct correlation between institutional training, access to credit, and the growth of micro enterprises, underscoring the importance of strengthening both financial and capacity-building support for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Dr. Sangma said the book seeks to fill a gap in research on entrepreneurship in Garo Hills and hopes it will serve as a reference for policymakers, researchers and institutions working to strengthen Meghalaya’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
A recipient of the Young Researcher Award 2023, Dr. Sangma has over 14 years of teaching and research experience and has been actively associated with Meghalaya’s Promotion and Incubation of Market-driven Enterprises (PRIME) initiative, mentoring young entrepreneurs across Garo Hills. His academic interests include entrepreneurship, marketing management, service management and micro-enterprise development.
