Nagaland faces heavy to very heavy rain on Thursday as thunderstorms and downpours are forecast across all eight states.
Guwahati, July 22: Even as large parts of the Northeast continue to grapple with floods and landslides, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of widespread rain across the region over the next five days, with Nagaland likely to bear the brunt on Thursday.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, moderate rain is likely at many to most places across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, while Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also expected to receive widespread rainfall.
The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Nagaland on July 23, while heavy rain is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning have been forecast across all eight northeastern states during the period.
The weather office has issued alerts for heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, with thunderstorms and lightning likely at isolated places across the region.
The forecast comes after days of intense monsoon activity that triggered deadly landslides, flash floods and widespread disruption, particularly in Nagaland and parts of Assam.
The IMD has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain and closely monitor official weather advisories as the monsoon remains active over the Northeast.
