GUWAHATI, May 24: In a shocking incident reported from Assam’s Nagaon district, a nine-month pregnant woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a dispute over Rs 500.

The incident took place at 11 Mile under the Kathiatoli area. The deceased has been identified as Yasmin Begum, a resident of Akashiganga in Doboka.

Her husband, Azim Uddin, is currently absconding. According to reports, Azim Uddin had gone to his in-laws’ house at Haldiati in Doboka on the evening of May 22 to bring his wife home in an e-rickshaw. Sources said the couple had been facing frequent marital disputes.

While returning, an argument reportedly broke out between the two near Rengbeng over a monetary issue involving Rs 500. Family members alleged that during the altercation, Azim Uddin pushed the heavily pregnant woman out of the moving e-rickshaw and later assaulted her, leading to her death.

The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared both Yasmin Begum and her unborn child dead.

The incident sparked outrage in the area, with family members and locals alleging that there was an attempt to portray the incident as a road accident to conceal the crime.
Following a post-mortem examination on Saturday, the body was laid to rest at the Akashiganga graveyard. The victim’s family has lodged a complaint at the Kathiatoli police outpost.

Police have launched an investigation and initiated a search operation to trace the accused.
