Guwahati, Aug 31: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday staged massive protests across the state against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s reported remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother.
In Guwahati, hundreds of BJP workers and senior leaders took out a protest march from the Bhangagarh flyover to Rajiv Bhawan, the state Congress headquarters, where they staged a sit-in demonstration.
Protesters raised slogans such as “Congress murdabad” and “Rahul Gandhi murdabad.”
Speaking during the protest, Assam BJP vice president Ratna Singh strongly condemned Rahul Gandhi, saying:
“Two days ago, in Darbhanga, in Rahul Gandhi’s presence, a Congress member made derogatory comments against the Prime Minister’s late mother. This is an insult not just to Modi ji but to every youth, woman, and citizen of this country. A mother who lived a simple life, worked hard, and raised her son who went on to serve the nation as Prime Minister has been humiliated. Such degrading remarks reflect Congress’s mentality. This will cost them dearly.”

BJP leader Rupam Goswami echoed similar sentiments, stating: “The Congress has insulted not just the Prime Minister’s mother, who is no longer with us, but also the dignity of all Indian women. This humiliation will not be tolerated. From Guwahati to every district of Assam, BJP workers are rising in protest, and the people of Bharat will stand with us in rejecting such politics.”
The BJP has announced that protests will continue across Assam in the coming days to demand an apology from Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership.
