Guwahati, Jan 20: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Tuesday participated in an important roundtable meeting with key leaders of the global semiconductor industry at Davos, Switzerland.
Taking to X, Sarma said the meeting was part of Assam’s efforts to expand its semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen both upstream and downstream supply chains.
“In our quest to expand Assam’s semiconductor ecosystem and secure upstream as well as downstream supply chains, I, along with Hon’ble Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw ji, had an excellent meeting with key leaders of the global semiconductor industry,” Sarma wrote.
He said leaders from companies such as Synopsys, Qualcomm, Analog Devices, Thermo Fisher, Honeywell and Henkel participated in the discussion.
“Each of these companies is doing excellent work and has shown keen interest in partnering with us. I am truly grateful to Shri N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of @TataCompanies, for organising this roundtable and for being a valuable ally of the Assam government,” the chief minister added.

Addressing the gathering, Sarma highlighted Assam’s rapid economic growth and its strategic importance under the Centre’s ‘Act East’ policy.
“Assam is leveraging the full benefits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Act East’ policy. As per the latest Reserve Bank of India data, Assam is the fastest-growing economy in the country. We have grown at nearly 13 per cent over the past five years, and our projections indicate growth of around 15 per cent over the next five years,” he said.
Sarma noted that while Assam has traditionally been strong in hydrocarbons, the state is also making significant strides in green energy.
“We are extremely grateful to the Government of India for developing major facilities in Assam. The state has finally arrived, and we urge investors and industry leaders to look at Assam, which has immense potential and stands as a cornerstone and central pillar of the Act East policy,” he said.
On the second day of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Sarma also spoke about Assam’s efforts to prepare its workforce for an increasingly automated and AI-driven future.
“Given our young demography, Assam is rewriting the training playbook. The Assam Skill Development University, along with other initiatives, is embedding industry-friendly curricula at the heart of our skilling efforts,” he said in another post.
Highlighting the state’s industrial capabilities, Sarma said Assam hosts one of the most digitally advanced manufacturing sites globally.
“Guided by the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, Assam has emerged as the country’s fastest-growing state. I invite investors to explore the opportunities Assam has to offer,” he added.
